Miss Tourism Bulawayo reps get ready for finals

Bulawayo’s representatives at the Miss Tourism Zimbabwe are undergoing grooming therapy ahead of the final that will be staged in Harare on 6 February.

“Past participants at the national event such as Happiness Tshuma and Nomakhosazana are helping the girls with tips on how to impress the judges during camp. They are also going to the ZTA offices in Bulawayo to get as much information as they can lay their hands on to do with the country’s tourism industry,” said the Miss Tourism Bulawayo licence holder, Sarah Mpofu.
Sources at the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA), which is the custodian of the event, revealed that plans were under way to group the girls into camp two weeks before the final.
“Initially we wanted to bring together the girls for camp a week before the event but a week is not enough for us to study their characters. So we are still looking at the issue of having them for a longer period,” said a source from ZTA.
Miss Tourism Bulawayo, Samantha Tshuma, her first princess Mitchelle Gonah, a human resources practitioner at a local indigenous company, and Talyssa Van Rooyen, a Petra High School student, are representing Bulawayo.
Sarah Mpofu added that her girls have acquired most of their costumes.
“The girls are really committed to bringing the title to Bulawayo. I can safely say their wardrobes are almost complete save for a few things,” she said.
Bulawayo managed to get two girls into the top five of the Miss Tourism Zimbabwe 2008 final. Happiness Tshuma came in as a dark horse to become first princess ahead of the then Miss Tourism Bulawayo Sharon Dube who made it into the top five.
